The Iranians are smarter than Trump, not that that's difficult. They know that like a classic bully, he'll back down if you stand up to him.
There's zero appetite for a war in the Middle East in the US, outside of the usual crazies. A looming war with Iran will damage Trump's reelection prospects, and the Iranians know that.
He'll back down on sanctions, just like he always does.

There's clearly a connection between Israel and the US, but you'd have to be stupid, or crazy, or both, to think that the huge American dog is being wagged by the small Israeli tail.
Israeli may not be 100% controlled by the US - it's far from that - but the US is 0% by controlled Israel.
